DC Comics Legends of the Dark Knight Norm Breyfogle - Volumes 1 and 2. For sale is a lot of two books, "Legends of the Dark Knight: Norm Breyfogle - Volume 1" and Legends of the Dark Knight: Norm Breyfogle - Volume 2. These hardcover graphic novels collect most of superstar artist Norm Breyfogle's work on Batman throughout the years. Breyfogle's Batman was the quintessentially 90s Batman, combining realistic linework with terrifying exaggeration, particularly when it came to his characters' expressions and emotions. Breyfogle was famous for his longtime collaborations with writers John Wagner and Alan Grant, including many of the stories here.
You'll find terrific one-shots stories as well as multi-part stories, collected in full (unlike other "Legends of the Dark Knight" hardcovers, which often feature fragmented stories). Classic rogues make multiple appearances, like the Joker, Penguin, and Scarecrow - and one can't forget the epic four-part "Mud Pack" storyline, where all of the clayfaces came together to form an unstoppable team of villainy! Meanwhile, these stories also include the first appearances of villains who would become modern mainstays of Batman's Rogues Gallery, including Ratcatcher, Cornelius Stirk, and Scarface & The Ventriloquist. Other notable first appearances from less villanous recurring characters include Harold and Anarky, to say nothing of the debut of Tim Drake as the third Robin!
All in all, Volume 1 collects "Batman Annual" #11-12 and "Detective Comics" #579, 582-594, and 601-607. Volume 2 collects "Batman" #448-451 and #455-459, "Detective Comics" #608-621, and pinup art from "Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe" #5, #8, #10, #13, #14 and #16. These stories aren't just important to the Batman canon - they're also gorgeously rendered, with pages that are a nice, thick glossy stock, with beautiful, bold colors and lovely art reproduction.
These are truly deluxe collections, which are out of print and increasingly difficult to find. Collectors may be interested to know that these copies are from the first printing of these editions. These book are brand new, unread, and in excellent condition. Volume 1 is in pretty much mint condition, while the only notable defect on Volume 2 is a very minor stress line on the bottom of the dust jacket at the spine. Please see the pictures for details.
The bindings are strong and tight, and there are no tears, rips, folds, creases, or loose pages. They were stored in a smoke-free, pet-free environment. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have!
